Responsible for effectively communicating Heritage’s work and ideas to different donor audiences (i.e. individuals, corporations, foundations) through the written word; and in a way that honors donors, builds relationships, and inspires progressively larger gifts to The Heritage Foundation and its sister organization Heritage Action for America.
- Produce original content as needed to create personalized thank you letters, proposals, introductory letters, speeches, funded project reports, and other donor correspondence.
- Participate in writer’s trainings, exercises, and mentorship opportunities with Senior Writers and editors in order to continually improve at the craft of writing.
- Write text/copy for creative donor reports according to specifications of Donor Stewardship Specialist.
- Work closely with regional managers to ensure that all written products are well suited to the donor, personalized, timely, and accurate. Also work with Heritage policy experts to convey Heritage’s position on a given issue in the clearest, most compelling way possible.
- Effectively communicate Heritage’s message in the “voice” of various Heritage trustees and executives – including and especially President Jim DeMint – while still writing in a tone which that appeals to specific donors.

B.A. in English or related degree. Graduate degree preferred.
Established writer with at least 4-5 years of experience; experience in fundraising and or journalism preferred.
- MS Office, Outlook, proficient in Word; knowledge of databases (Blackbaud CRM) and Excel useful.

- Excellent grasp of English technicalities, including grammar and usage, and the ability to proof and edit copy efficiently. Familiar with AP Style.
- Ability to render complex technical aspects of Heritage programs in a language which donors can readily understand, and can clearly and persuasively relate the aims of these programs to policy and philosophical concerns of donors.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines with a quick turn-around.
